JD Dunne stared at the TV
screen, his eyes wide and staring.
It couldn't be. It just couldn't be!
He looked around at his friends.
Chris was grinning, leaning back
in his chair with his arms crossed over his chest, his Mets cap low on his
head, hiding his eyes.
Buck had pulled off his Yankees
cap and was leaning forward shaking his head in dismay, rubbing his hand
through his hair in that way that showed it still hadn't sunk in.
Vin was laughing, slapping his
knees, while next to him a sly looking Ezra pulled out a wad of cash—most of
which he'd keep since they all thought the Yankees would win, except for JD of
course and, apparently, the Southerner.
Josiah was watching the kid,
grinning at the boy's still dumbfounded expression.
Nathan stood up, still watching the
TV, his hands on his hips, just shaking his head in disbelief.
"Did that just seriously
happen?" he asked, looking around.
"Did the Sox just beat the Yankees?
How is that possible?"
Buck finally looked up, eyeing
JD with nothing less than full fledged annoyance.
And that's all it took, as the
kid jumped about ten feet in the air and let out a cheer loud enough to fill
the entire block.
"YEEEEEEEEHA! WE'RE GOING
TO THE WORLD SERIES! WE'RE GOING TO THE
WORLD SERIES! WWWAAAAHOOOOOOOOOO!"
And as the boy from Boston
continued to bounce all over the room, a smirking Ezra leaned over to the still
disgusted looking Buck:
"And that, my friend, is
how you to torture a Yankees fan."
